Matrix MCT Patch for Equines

What it is:
The Matrix MCT Patch is a disposable micro current unit for 24/7 pain relief and to promote the bodies own healing mechanisms. Studies have shown that micro current promotes Type 1 collagen production, not Type 3 (scar tissue) in tendons and ligaments reducing the incidence of chronic degeneration and re-injury.

Putting it together:
The latest model is an all new design. There are now two parts that make a complete component. The first part is the circuit and the second are patches that have a snap button on them.

The circuit snaps onto the patches and it’s ready to be applied. When the patches become soiled the circuit can be removed and put on fresh patches. Each Matrix MCT Patch kit for equines comes with one circuit and three sets of white foam backed patches.

Red light tells you it’s on:
On side of the circuit houses a small battery and a red light indicator. When applied the red light comes on and when removed and put back on the plastic storage sheets the red light automatically goes off.

How long the Matrix MCT Patch lasts:
The circuit will last 200-500 hours. If the patch is left on 24/7 which is important to do for some injuries, then the patch is working harder and does not last as long. If the patch is worn for short duration then they typically last much longer. Either way, they are make good sense
and are an excellent bargain for the money because they work so well.

Matrix MCT Patch for the Legs:
The horses lower legs are easy to treat with the Matrix MCT Patch. Tendon and ligaments respond well to the use of the Matrix MCT Patch. This includes tears, core lesions, strains and in general any damage or trauma to the legs. Even hairline fractures and be treated.

Applying the patch:
To treat with the patch, the site is wetted the size of the patches with a dab of Matrix Gel (mostly Arnica and other good stuff) or other gel (see gel
article for appropriate gels) the patches are placed over the wet areas, and then wrapped with a light colored vet wrap (yellow, gold works best) so the red light is still visible.

Most of us micro current users take for granted that we can shorten injury recovery time by half if we are willing to spend the time to do the treatment. I am always looking for short cuts and here is a perfect example of an exciting new shortcut.

Matrix MCT Patch for the foot:
Recently I had a horse that came in from pasture extremely lame on his right front foot. I found a pressure point in his foot that signaled to me that it was probably an abscess coming on. I took the temperature of the site using a surface thermometer (more on this click here) and found that the site was 7 degrees warmer than the rest of the hoof sole. As a reference I checked his other front foot and found no temperature discrepancies. I clearly needed to address his discomfort quickly. I cleaned his foot and treated with the Precision (clinic style micro current unit) for about 20 minutes and contemplated my treatment plan. Normally I would treat twice daily for a couple of days to resolve this quickly using micro current. I wondered about the Matrix MCT Patch. After I was finished with the Precision I switched to the Matrix MCT Patch. I added a glob of Matrix Gel and placed a patch the bottom of foot on the hot spot .

The patch I used for the bottom of the foot is a non snap type electrode we use with our regular micro current treatments that connects to a
special wire connector (see part # 5016). Then I covered the patch with a folded square of cotton gauze to create a smooth protected surface and then secured that into place with duct tape. The final step was to place the red light patch at the back side of the coronet band at the Ting points (acupuncture points) and wrap with yellow vet wrap so I could see the red light glowing. I put him out to pasture for the day. Late that afternoon he came in walking sound and comfortable. That evening when putting him into his stall I verified the light was on and everything was intact and then tucked in him for the night.
The next day was the same as the previous; he was turned out for the day and brought in for night. The next morning as I glanced into his stall I was disappointed to see that the red light patch was dragging on the ground! I figured it was ruined and brought him out to inspect the damage. The circuit was fine! I peeled the hoof dressing off, noticing while I fiddled around that he stayed very quite even though I was touching what was once a very sore foot. Then I pressed harder: not a flinch. So, I checked the sore spot with my surface thermometer and found no heat discrepancies. He walked and trotted sound. The treatment proved to be remarkable and easy. This is the kind of results I like. No invasive digging out the foot. No discomfort for him or inconvenience for me! Just a couple of days of keeping and eye out for the dressing.

Since then reports have come in that it great for stone bruises and even heal pain. You can even get clever and find ways to use on hips,
shoulders, withers and the poll.

The Matrix MCT Patch is a remarkable product and should be part of every horse mans stable of supplies.
